Good November Disciples,
My, the landscape has changed. The leaves have fallen, and the weather has become cooler. I can definitely say that fall is in the air. This morning, I was watching the news and noticed that Duluth was in a winter storm watch, and it’s October 30th. Break out your winter coats; winter is coming!
November, for me, has always been a transitional month. After a busy October, having the Fall Dinner, and rolling Lefse, maybe November is a time to slow down. But the reality is this: we are only just beginning. We are not quite to Advent, but we should probably be preparing for it. We have Thanksgiving, which is late this year, on the 28th, and then Sunday, December 1st, we are right into Advent. I know I am getting ahead of myself.
So, what does November entail?
As I said, preparing. We need to prepare for Santa Day, which is December 7th. This is just a small reminder that donations are still needed. We need gifts for all ages. For dads, for teenage boys and girls, and even grandparents. Make sure that you look for deals when you are out shopping. If you do purchase something for Santa Day, there is a box in the fellowship hall where you can place your donations. If you are not one who wants to shop, we are also taking monetary donations; you can drop a check or cash into the offering plate; just make sure you document if you want the money to go to Santa Day. Lastly, make sure you clear your calendar for the day; we can use everyone’s help, and it gives you a great opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ. Remember, there will be treats and popcorn, so come and help on December 7th.
Another thing that will be happening in November is the hanging of the greens. That will take place on Sunday, November 24th, right after church. A lot of hands make little work. Also, it gives us time to fellowship. So come and help decorate the church for the holiday season.
On a final note, there will be an Advent Study starting the last week of November. Yes, I do realize that it is the day before Thanksgiving, but the study is four weeks long. This year, we will be using the study, The Christmas Letters, by Magrey DeVega. There will be a sign-up for this study on the table near the doors of the church. If you don’t want to read, there is also an Audible version available on Amazon. If you want a Kindle version, which is also available on Amazon, just type the name of the book and author into the search menu.
So, as we move through the month of November, are you preparing for what is about to come?
I certainly hope you are.
Have a blessed month,
Pastor Greg Leslie
