Pastor Jonathan's September Message
Dear Readers,
I wanted to lay out the typical schedule I plan to follow, though ministry needs can shift it. The schedule may shift due to conference events, pastor training, weddings, funerals, or the needs of Park UMC.
On Sunday, I plan to arrive by 9:00 AM, lead worship at 10:00 AM, and then just generally mix with people after the service, 11:00-11:30 or later. I have been going out to eat with the lunch group after that.
On Monday, I will do worship planning and general administrative work, mostly in Brainerd at the parsonage. This time may involve working for both churches.
On Tuesday, I plan to arrive around 9:30 and work in the church office until 3:30. If nothing else is happening, I may join Bone Builders during that time.
On Wednesdays, I hope to arrive by 10:00 am, stay through Game Day, and then return to Brainerd to run the confirmation class at Park UMC.
Thursdays are my Sabbath day.
On Friday, I will come to Motley to participate in Bone Builders and use it as a visit-and-connection day to connect with people in the church community and the community at large.
Saturday is mixed; I am holding this as a day to participate in any special events either church is holding. If there is a conflict, the Motley event takes precedence. I will also do extra sermon practice and preparation on Saturdays, usually at my home in Brainerd.
All these change as needed, so Park’s Rally Day on September 13th will mean I leave a little early to catch as much of Rally Day as I can after preaching.
I have a local area pastor get-together September 9th, 11-12:30. I have some conference-type events September 21 and 22, so I might need to spend some time in Zoom meetings on those days.
Also, I have expressed that I would like to join the cycle of pastors serving chapel: “Chapel is held at the Care Center, Pines and Manor each Tuesday afternoon (Care Center-2:00 PM, Pines-3:00 PM, Manor 4:00 PM)”. Obviously, any week I hold chapel services, I will leave the office early. My guess is that will happen in rotation every x weeks, x being something like 7 or 8 weeks.
